<image:title>My Projects - Cloud Pak What Works Well Together: Diary Study</image:title>
<image:caption>Summary Participants linked "software working well together" with people and their work processes. These areas were strongly associated to each other, making it difficult for them to isolate how software tools work on their own. For things to work well together, it implies more than just software. It means all the parts are working: Works well with other software Works well on its own Works well with people Works well within the workflow</image:caption>

<image:caption>Multiple tools may focus on alerts (some kind of quick, unusual notification for any anomalies or dysfunctions). Multiple participants use multiple tools to handle alerts because the cloud platform itself did not provide all the functionality needed. Picture on left: Dairy entry of an image shared by an engineering research participant to illustrate multiple tools used in working with alerts.</image:caption>

<image:title>My Projects - Cloud Pak What Works Well Together: Diary Study - Multiple Dashboards Viewed at Once</image:title>
<image:caption>Participants wanted a single and clean, initial dashboard view that is easy to interpret, manipulate, and understand. This meant less clutter, logical order, quickly seeing problems via colors, descriptive section titles and easy, intuitive switching between products or projects. Picture on right: Dairy entry of an image shared by an admin research participant to illustrate that multiple screens are always in use. His dashboard is on the far right.</image:caption>

<image:title>My Projects - Cloud Pak What Works Well Together: Diary Study - Participants Mentioned Having Fewer Cloud Tools</image:title>
<image:caption>Various tools comes with lots of learning curves. They don’t necessarily work the same way and don’t always allow a view of a single dashboard. "I’d like a super comprehensive tool that has capacity to span across a larger functioning area. So right now, as I probably named, there’s like 10 different software tools I use. If I could it in one tool, that would be amazing. I only need to learn and master one software, and so does my team, we don't all need to know, five or 10 different software tools. There's one standardized training for the entire institution. Everyone uses that one software, and because it is one software, there's less likelihood, it will be for there to be any data recognition errors or file read errors and things of that nature because it's all going to be the same." - Admin</image:caption>

<image:title>My Projects - IBM Red Hat Marketplace Usage Based Products: Usability Study - Payment and Charges Screen</image:title>
<image:caption>Users enjoyed the user interface and concept Most users thought the screen was clean and straightforward when coming across the payment method. Users also loved the idea of monthly payments. Misinterpretations in the payment Some of the users were unable to identify if usage was billed during the date of purchase or after using it. One of those users believed you had to commit to a certain number of hours before purchasing. This uncertainty was linked to the heading "Applied rate,” under Hourly usage from the sidebar. One user thought it was an additional fee to the number of users and hourly usage. Another user thought it didn't separate the user and hourly cost very well</image:caption>

<image:title>My Projects - IBM Red Hat Marketplace Usage Based Products: Usability Study - Pending Charges</image:title>
<image:caption>Understanding current balances Most users loved the design and layout, especially the pie chart that separated each product on the monthly charge overview. After having users analyze the screen for 1 minute, each were asked what current balance represents. An amalgamation of user’s reviews consisted of expected charges, software purchased and currently in use, and a blend of both answers. Adjusting monthly view Next, users were asked if they could change or add anything else to the drop-down menu at the top right. Most of the users liked the monthly view. Other suggestions were adding quarterly, weekly, bi-annually, and annually views.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Exporting and Downloading Data In both instances, users would like to be able to export and download their data onto a PDF or CSV file. Users would like to have the option to select which parts of the data to export, as well. Additionally, one user was unsure of the differentiation between the “Export data” and the download button. Invoices One user suggested changing the Invoice heading to “past or previous invoices.” Also, another user recommended turning the heading “Timeframe” to months.</image:caption>

<image:title>My Projects - IBM Red Hat Marketplace Usage Based Products: Usability Study - Invoices</image:title>
<image:caption>Invoice content Overall, users thought the invoice was straightforward and and nicely done. The overall display was very similar to what a lot of invoices most users have seen. Subscription and One-Time Charges The only downfall to the invoice screen was the headings “Subscription and One-Time Charges.” One user thought it didn’t necessarily match the description because there were a blend of fees, subscription, and usage-based charges. Notifications Users would like to get notifications of payment and other alerts through both email and text. Recommendations Evaluate "Subscription and One-Time Charges" and change it to “Charges” or “Detailed Charges”</image:caption>

<image:title>My Projects - Project Excel: Heuristic Evaluation & User Testing - How did this project start?</image:title>
<image:caption>At the request of Rob Thomas, Senior Vice President of IBM Cloud and Data Platform, "Project Excel" was initiated to identify barriers and implement solutions to enhance the trial user experience for IBM's Cloud Paks throughout the user journey stages, including discover, learn, register, get started, first use, and purchase. Specifically for the IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation page, our task was to create an as-is user journey map for the discover, learn, try, and demo stages.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Heuristic Evaluation + User Testing Participants: 6 users Roles: Customer Operations Manager, Senior Manager, Marketing Operations Manager, Business Analyst, and so on. What are we evaluating and testing? Based on the existing user journey map, participants will be evaluating the marketing page of the Cloud Pak for Business Automation and testing the SaaS trial experience. They will follow the "Discover, learn, try, and demo" flow of the current user journey, starting with a user scenario. "Imagine you want to find a business automation platform to evaluate which solutions address your organization's workflow orchestration, decision managing, and task automation so that you can create and manage AI-directed workflows to automate business processes, use AI to gain understanding and better governance over your enterprise content, and so on."</image:caption>

<image:title>My Projects - Project Excel: Heuristic Evaluation & User Testing - Too many hand-holding</image:title>
<image:caption>Walk Me Tour Wasn’t Effective: Upon logging in, users are presented with a walk-through tour. However, they may still be unsure about what actions to take next without explicit instructions. "I would want a simplified version of the whole experience. I would want step by step guide to walk me through creating an automated workflow. So use cases where you are so and so analyst and looking to automate something. So simple workflow teaching you to create. And also, a feel good perspective to walk away from tutorial after 5 minutes creating your first automated workflow. I think that would encourage people to see how simple it is to use and how much benefit it is" - Business Analyst Walk Me Tour Should Provide More Details: The majority of users expressed dissatisfaction with the walk-through tour, stating that they were expecting a more interactive and engaging trial experience. "It would be nice to see what kind of templates are available. I can do without the tour guide. I know what a navigation bar is and help me button does.” - Customer Operations Manager</image:caption>

<image:title>My Projects - Project Excel: Heuristic Evaluation & User Testing - A need for guidance continues...</image:title>
<image:caption>Technical Support is Lacking: Users do not have access to a technical support team or chat on the homepage to seek guidance when they get lost within the demo trial. Confusing Demo Walk-through: The demo walk-through is confusing for users, as it presents a complicated layout that appears to be three separate tasks and then directs them to a more complex slide presentation. Users mistakenly believe that each box represents a distinct demo and end up completing only one task, such as "Launch the Demo Dashboard." Only one user followed each slide thoroughly. Getting Started is Just the Walk Me Tour: Clicking on "Getting Started" only leads users to the same walk-through that appears when they sign in, which adds to their confusion.</image:caption>

<image:title>My Projects - Project Excel: Heuristic Evaluation & User Testing - Recommendations</image:title>
<image:caption>To improve the trial user experience, we recommend providing a more comprehensive walk-through, which condenses the step-by-step processes of each use case into a single document. We also suggest adding a checklist feature to enable users to track their progress as they complete each task. Furthermore, a chat box or some other form of on-demand assistance could be included to provide guidance and support when users get stuck at any stage of their experience. Potential Impact: By implementing these recommendations, users will be able to navigate the trial without requiring external support. They will be able to apply their chosen use cases to the product efficiently and effectively, resulting in a productive and beneficial experience.</image:caption>

<image:title>My Projects - Project Excel: Heuristic Evaluation & User Testing - Too many hand-holding</image:title>
<image:caption>Uncertainty Towards the Trial Navigation: During the trial, users encounter uncertainty when navigating through the use cases and trying to return to the trial homepage to complete tasks from the demo. Misleading Trial Navigation: Furthermore, the trial navigation can be misleading as users may assume that clicking the X or home button from the use case demo will take them back to the trial homepage, but instead, it redirects them to a different site, causing confusion and frustration.</image:caption>

<image:caption>To improve the trial experience, we recommend creating a more comprehensive walk-through that includes all use cases in a single document. Additionally, a checklist feature could help users track their progress as they complete each task. Consider adding a chat box to provide users with support when they get stuck. <image:title>My Projects - Project Excel: Heuristic Evaluation & User Testing - Product is confusing</image:title>
<image:caption>Users struggle to understand the specific services, integrations, and apps that are included with the purchase of the platform. The marketing page does not clearly outline the products that are part of the Business Automation bundle, leaving users unsure of what is included and what software they will have access to. "Is it a package of a product or one product? Do you have to buy a package to get the automation or is it just one product?" - Marketing Operations Manager “One question I have is, especially when I'm thinking about automation business processes, what tools does this integrate with? How am I able to automate business processes between, let’s say Netsuite and Salesforce using this tool like this or does this tool basically replace things?" - System Admin Unclear pricing structure: There’s no set number that shows the cost of the platform. Though “Pricing” can be seen at the top as a tab, it doesn’t clarify users with the pricing structure.</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>

<image:title>My Projects - Project Excel: Heuristic Evaluation & User Testing - Product is misdirecting users</image:title>
<image:caption>Navigating to Other Products: The marketing page has excessive text, causing users to click around different links to understand the product. At the bottom of the marketing page, there is a list of different products that may or may not be a part of the Business Automation platform. As a result, users may become confused and not fully understand what is included with the platform. This creates a need for a clearer and more effective way to showcase the bundled products.</image:caption>

<image:title>My Projects - Project Excel: Heuristic Evaluation & User Testing - Recommendations</image:title>
<image:caption>To make it clearer for users what comes with the Business Automation platform, it would be helpful to visually show a side-by-side comparison of the different products and services included. Additionally, a pricing table could be created to show different options and premiums, making it easier for users to compare this product to other competitors and determine the best fit for their company. Potential Impact: The impact of providing this information is that it would enable users to make a more informed purchase of the product. While users may not be expected to fully understand the functionality and capabilities of IBM's Cloud Pak for Business Automation, giving them a thorough explanation of what it consists of and providing a clear price comparison could help make their decision-making process more comfortable.</image:caption>

<image:title>My Projects - Project Excel: Heuristic Evaluation & User Testing - Trial signup of the automation trial</image:title>
<image:caption>Users were subjected to a 48-hour waiting period before being able to access their free trial, after completing the account registration process. “That's a bummer. I think, one, if someone went through the website and it was something they wanted to do, and then they have to wait for 2 days, they would easily get distracted and also knowing the context that they read, I'm not saying they'll forget everything, but you're not taking advantage of the moment. You're not building off the momentum of excitement of taking this call to action. When you're thinking about a tool that's going to impact your business ops team, you want to make sure you have quick and fast and great support. Is this taking up 48 hours because it's very complex on the back end. And what kind of support I'm going to get while doing this trial?" - Customer Operations Manager</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/606b5ef290e19772201aa04e/1617931109928-IKRFK992MI1XHWHSDJG1/Screen+Shot+2021-03-12+at+1.43.04+PM.png</image:loc>
<image:title>My Projects - Project Excel: Heuristic Evaluation & User Testing - Questions emerged from the Trial Signup of the Automation Trial</image:title>
<image:caption>Participants expressed a desire for a trial signup page that was more visually appealing and engaging. They found the content on the left side to be excessive in text and felt that the overall design of the page looked outdated. They requested for more images and graphics to be used in place of lengthy text. "Would be cool to have gif or flow builder running on the side here" - Customer Operations Manager "My initial thought is its kind of wordy. There's a lot of text and not a lot of graphic. So something like this could be 3-4 images and not be a wall of text." - Business Analyst Create links for use-cases and bold important words: Hyperlink the use cases mentioned in the text of the signup page to actual use cases and make the 30-day trial stand out by bolding it, as users recommended.</image:caption>

<image:title>My Projects - Project Excel: Heuristic Evaluation & User Testing - Recommendations</image:title>
<image:caption>To improve the trial signup page, adding images and reducing the amount of text will make it look more appealing and modern. It is recommended to create hyperlinks for use-cases and bold the 30 day trial period to make it more prominent. Additionally, providing immediate access to the trial rather than making users wait for 48 hours would be beneficial. Potential Impact: The changes will have a positive impact on the user experience by building trust with IBM and encouraging users to sign up for the 30-day trial immediately. The modern look and feel of the page, along with easy-to-navigate links, will make it more appealing to potential users.</image:caption>

<image:title>My Projects - Project Excel: Heuristic Evaluation & User Testing - Content is very vague</image:title>
<image:caption>Benefits Section needs more context: Users expressed that the benefits and client studies sections are crucial pieces of information on a website. However, they found the benefits section to be lacking in context and suggested making it clickable to another page or incorporating a pop-up window to provide more detail on how the product can benefit them. "It'd be nice if you could click on that to see what the insights are. Speak more specifics into that, instead of being so broad. I would like to click on one of the benefits and see multiple samples of that benefit in action. That'll be helpful." - Marketing Operations Manager "If you click on benefits, it would be good to click on the benefits and took you to a study. It feels static. Make it more interactive. I would separate [Benefits] into other pages too. The only thing I dislike the fact that I have to scroll down the page a lot. I would have put these into separate tabs for References, Benefits, and stuff like that" - Business Analyst</image:caption>

The use cases were appreciated, but users found the static images to be unengaging and requested more interactive content such as videos or gifs to better showcase the product. "Page feels very static. I'm more likely to return to sites if they are engaging. Just having text and link just feels not very interactive. I'm very interested in this service but its not very engaging overall. The service is engaging and that's what going to keep me coming back. But the content is super not engaging." - Business Analyst</image:caption>

<image:title>My Projects - Intelligent Workflow Generative and Usability Test (COMING SOON) - During our study, we learned that many participants were successful at creating their own workflows in various ways. However, numerous participants misunderstood the purpose of the data tab within the workflow. For example, many questioned the idea of how the data tab relates to the workflow or what types of data goes inside of it.</image:title>
<image:caption>All participants understood that clicking the plus sign would initiate the start of the workflow. Some participants who were eager to click on the green, start button due to it being the first item or the fact that its’ green color signaled "Go." Participants missed the opportunity to see the activity panel at first glance. This activity panel is activated when participants begin creating their workflow and appears mysteriously to the right side of the screen. The navigation control bar is also surprisingly hidden from the human eye. It's not the fact that the activity panel or navigation control bar are invisible, but their placements or set locations could be a huge factor in this equation. Participants prefer workflow diagram controls contextually as opposed to having it in the edit panel. This allows a more simpler navigation to easily find or track tools and buttons. With these discoveries, changes should be made to improve the overall, user experience.</image:caption>
